The Usapang Boto: The Baguio Youth Edition, held on May 16, 2026, at the Paragon Hotel, was organized by the Baguio Youth for Good Governance and the Liberal Youth Baguio-Benguet in partnership with the SIGLAT - Baguio Youth Innovation Hub, bringing together members of various youth organizations and individuals to strengthen political awareness, civic responsibility, and informed participation in the upcoming barangay election and the 2028 national election. The activity made a significant impact by helping young people realize that voting is not merely a right but a responsibility, emphasizing that “you give power to the person who will take care of your life” and that “government is your Tuesday,” meaning governance directly affects everyday realities such as education, employment, safety, public services, and community welfare.
Through discussions on youth political disengagement, the positions to be elected in 2028, and key governance issues such as the padrino system, red-tagging, and red tape, participants gained a deeper understanding of how politics shapes fairness, human rights, and government efficiency.
The seminar also equipped youth leaders and advocates with practical tools to critically evaluate candidates based on policy directions, programs and services, and people-friendly systems rather than personality or popularity. By using interactive talks, real-life examples, issue-based discussions, and reflective messaging, the training made political concepts more relatable and meaningful, empowering participants to counter political apathy, promote informed voting, and encourage responsible civic engagement within their communities.
