Sustainable Development Goals Research Symposium 2025

With the theme โ๐๐ฃ๐ค๐ฌ๐ก๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ค๐ง ๐ผ๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ: ๐๐๐ค๐ฅ๐ก๐, ๐๐ก๐๐ฃ๐๐ฉ, ๐๐ง๐ค๐จ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ฉ๐ฎ,โ the symposium served as a venue for sharing data-driven research and insights that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level.
The activity featured research presentations from students and faculty members representing various higher education institutions in Baguio City. The presentations were grouped into three thematic sessions aligned with the SDG clusters: People, Planet, and Prosperity.
Prof. Giovanni Malapit from the University of the PhilippinesโBaguio presented โMentoring Future Scientists for Sustainability: The UP Baguio Experience in Advancing the SDGsโ under Session 1 focused on People: Social Development.
Session 2 focused on Planet: Environment and Sustainability wherein three researches all by Saint Louis University students were presented. Presenters were: Ben Lenard Seth Dulay on Geospatial Mapping and Identification of Environmental and Anthropogenic Factors around PM10 Sampling Points in Baguio City using Geographics Information System; Pamela Kirsten D. Ferrer on โExploring Materials and Modes for Improved Energy Output in Triboelectric Nanogenerator and Solar Photovoltaic Hybrid Systems for Tropical Climate; and, Ma. Angelica L. Dela Cruz on Spatiotemporal Analysis of land Use Land Cover Change and Its Correlation to the Water Quality of Asin-Galiano River.
There were also three researches presented for Session 3 focused on Prosperity: Economic Development. Studies were entitled: Design and Development of Tarana-Ai โ An Agentic Ai approach to Sustainable Tourism in Baguio City by Gemwil C. Salayog et al., University of the Cordilleras; Factors of Ethical Behaviors Affecting Bakakeng Businesses in Business Permit Compliance by Kaileene Gwyneth Sy Su et al., University of Baguio; and, Infrasee: Streamlining infrastructure Incident Reporting for Utility Providers, Local Government, and Consumers in Baguio City by Ranjana Galangco et al., University of Baguio.
CPDSO Assistant Department Head Elias Aonan said the research symposium serves as a catalyst for sharing knowledge in helping plan and build a better city with practical solutions.
The symposium also featured the recognition of winners of the Statistical Contests held in line with the National Statistics Month celebration, namely ๐๐ฉ๐๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐๐ฅ๐จ: ๐๐ฃ๐จ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐จ ๐๐ฉ ๐ ๐๐ก๐๐ฃ๐๐ and ๐๐ฃ๐๐ค๐๐ฉ๐๐ฉ. The winners for StatSnaps were the Bureau of Fire Protection (1st place), the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (2nd place), and the City Civil Registry Office (3rd place). For InfoStat, the City Environment and Parks Management Office won 1st place, followed by the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office in 2nd place, and the City Mayorโs Office โ Permits and Licensing Division in 3rd place.
The event successfully brought together the academe, local government offices, and development partners in promoting the value of data, research, and innovation for evidence-based decision-making. It highlighted the City Government of Baguioโs continuing commitment to knowledge-driven and sustainable governance that advances the shared goals of People, Planet, and Prosperity. โ JM Samidan & CPDSO
